There is no doubt that Rob Gronkowski, best known as simply “Gronk,” is one of the best tight ends in all of football. What he was able to accomplish on Thursday night on the opening night of the 2021 National Football League season at age 32 was simply magical in a 31-29 Tampa Bay win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Gronkowski was a beast, and constantly got himself open in breaking away from defenders of the Dallas Cowboys. He had eight catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns. This was the second straight monster game for Gronkowski. Remember in last season’s Super Bowl, Gronk came up big too as he had six catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-9 Buccaneers win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Gronkowski was not the only Buccaneers receiver to shine on opening night. Chris Godwin had nine catches for 105 yards and one touchdown, while Antonio Brown had five catches for 121 yards and one touchdown. Godwin had a key fumble with just over five minutes left near the Cowboys goal line, but redeemed himself with a key 24-yard catch from Tom Brady on the final Buccaneers drive, which set up the 36-yard game-winning field goal by Ryan Succop on the final play of the game.
And finally, what can one possibly say about the overall brilliance of Tom Brady? The 44-year-old legend was up to his regular greatness on Thursday. He completed 32 of 50 passes for 379 yards in the two-point Buccaneers win. Remember Tampa Bay has got off to a better start than last season, when they were beaten 34-23 by Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in week one.
