Jaguars trade cornerback A.J. Bouye to the Broncos

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded cornerback A.J. Bouye to the Denver Broncos for a fourth round pick in the 2020 National Football League Draft according to Nick Shook of nfl.com on Tuesday. Bouye, a native of Tucker, Georgia, is joining his third National Football League franchise. He played his first four seasons with the Houston Texans from 2013 to 2016, and the last three seasons since 2017 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Bouye played 14 games with the Jaguars and had  a career high 65 tackles in 2019. He had 50 solo tackles and 15 assisted tackles. Bouye also had one interception for 25 yards last year. That came in a 29-15 Jaguars win over the New York Jets on October 27.

Bouye also had a season high six tackles on four different occasions in 2019. However, the Jaguars won only one of those four games. That came on October 20 in a 27-17 Jaguars win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Remember having a lot of tackles in one game is not always a good thing. That is because a player’s defense tends to be on the football field a lot.

Bouye attended one Pro Bowl in his career. That was with the Jaguars during the 2017 NFL regular season. In 16 games that year, Bouye had 56 tackles, a career high 53 solo tackles, three assisted tackles, and a career high six interceptions. In seven NFL seasons, Bouye has played in 93 games and has 315 total tackles, 266 solo tackles, 49 assisted tackles, one forced fumble, one sack, one fumble recovery and 14 interceptions.

Once in Bouye’s NFL career he has found the end zone. That came on a 51 yard interception return in a 31-21 Texans loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on November 2, 2014. Bouye’s lone sack came in a 23-14 Texans win over the Chicago Bears on September 11, 2016.

The major reason why Bouye was traded had to come down to financials. According to Shook, the Jaguars needed some cap space in order to use their franchise tag on defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.
