According to statmuse.com on Thursday, Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook of Miami, Florida became the first running back this season to rush for 200 yards or more in a single game. He had 205 yards as the Vikings defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 36-28 to open up week 14.
Cook had 27 rushes for 205 yards and two touchdowns, along with one catch for 17 total yards. Two other running backs reached the 200-yard plateau in rushing yards in the calendar year of 2021, but Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts and Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans each eclipsed 200 rushing yards to close out the 2020 National Football League regular season in 2021. Taylor had 253 yards rushing in a 28-14 Colts win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Henry had 250 yards rushing in a 41-38 win over the Houston Texans on January 3.
It was the second time in Cook’s career he recorded 200 yards in a game. He previously accomplished the feat in a 34-20 win over the Detroit Lions on November 8, 2020. In this contest last season, Cook had 206 rushing yards.
The only other Vikings running back to have multiple 200 yard rushing games is Adrian Peterson according to ESPN. Peterson, who now plays with the Seattle Seahawks after being released earlier this season by the Titans, is tied for the most 200-yard rushing games in NFL history with six. He is tied with former Buffalo Bills running back O.J. Simpson.
Peterson also holds the NFL rushing record for most yards in a game with 296. He accomplished the feat in a 35-17 Vikings win over the San Diego Chargers on November 4, 2007.
The Vikings meanwhile improved to a record of six wins and seven losses. They are half a game back of the Washington Football Team and the San Francisco 49ers for the final playoff spot in the National Football Conference.
