NFL Week 2 Preview: Our Expert Tips & Staking Plan
September 19, 2020
A tough first week of games that we were so close on. An unbelievable collapse from the Eagles cost us a profitable week but despite that, it felt like we were on the right side of things in a week that was as hard as any to call with no preseason and some teams with huge changes. We now have some actual game play to go on and therefore a lot more information so week two can be a great one.
Minnesota Vikings @ Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium
Both of these teams disappointed in week one, but we shouldn’t overreact to it. We have to trust what we have seen in the build up to the season. Personally I believe the Vikings are vastly overrated and will be closer to the bottom of the standings than a playoff team and last week’s performance backed that up. They have so many rookies that will take time to bed in, a lack of options on offence and a quarterback that is fine, but will not carry a team to wins.
The Colts lost to the Jaguars in a massive upset, but we shouldn’t just write them off. Losing Marlon Mack is a big blow but they have his replacement there in rookie Jonathan Taylor. He had incredible production in college and he looks to be a physical freak. They shouldn’t drop off too much, if at all at the position. Nyheim Hines is a player to watch out of the backfield as well. Frank Reich is one of my favourite coaches in the league and he will have learnt from last week.
The Colts are just a better team than the Vikings and I have faith in them despite their week one performance.

New York Giants @ Chicago Bears, Soldier Field
The Bears are another one of those teams that there has been a bit of an overreaction to from their week one performance. They beat the Lions but historically Mitch Trubisky has done very well against Matt Patricia’s defence and we shouldn’t assume he has all of a sudden learnt how to play quarterback. Chicago are a flawed team with a poor passer and a running game that leaves a lot to be desired.
The Giants lost to the Steelers but their was some encouragement from the defence. Daniel Jones was decent, if not great and while the Steelers did bottle up Saquon Barkley, there is every chance they are the best defence in the league. Barkley is a stud and a week on from 35-year-old Adrian Peterson running all over the Bears, the Giants running back can do the same.
The Bears could win this one outright, but the 5.5 line is bigger than the gap between these two teams. If you want some longer odds then the Giants moneyline is tempting, but I am taking the points.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers, SoFi Stadium
I’ll start off by saying I know this is a big spread at 8.5 points, but the Chiefs are more than capable of covering. I’ll start with Andy Reid. He is an incredible record off the bye, and while this isn’t a bye, it is a long week after playing on Thursday night last week. The field is supposedly the fastest in the league now and there is no team that plays faster than the Chiefs. Kansas City can rack up points so quickly and there is little to suggest that the Tyrod Taylor led Chargers can keep up.
The Chargers have an excellent defence, but losing Derwin James shortly before the season takes them from one of the best to just a good unit. They will not let the Chiefs have it all their own way, but with all the weapons they have available, they will not be able to stop them.
Clyde Edwards-Helair got way more carries than expected in week one and already looks locked in as the starter, but I am going to fade him for this week. He may go off again but I don’t want to get involved in those markets as we just don’t know what his workload is going to look like early in the season.

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Raymond James Stadium
Tom Brady’s debut didn’t go as planned but the result probably doesn’t reflect how close the game was for a long time. A lot of the issues were just teething problems for Tampa Bay and another week in they should look a lot better. The Panthers have one of the worst secondaries in the league and the Bucs should fare a lot better.
On the other side of the ball, it is hard to see the Panthers having too much success up against the secondary that held Drew Brees, Michael Thomas and the rest of the Saints offence under 200 yards passing. It was really encouraging to see the improving defence take another step up from last season. They can give Teddy Bridgewater nightmares and that will allow them to really key in on Christian McCaffrey. They held the Panthers star to 31 and 37 yards rushing in last season’s meeting and seemed to be one of the only teams that managed to find a way to stop him.
I keep saying it but we shouldn’t overreact to one week. The Buccaneers are a contender and the Panthers are going to be picking top 10, if not very close to number one. They can win here and win it big.

Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium
The Cowboys suffered an unexpected loss in week one but this is a really good spot for them heading into week two. The Falcons defence looks really poor already, just as they did last season. The Seahawks threw the ball all over them and the phenomenal Cowboys passing game can do similar. The matchup for Dallas could not be better and I would expect them to be putting up big numbers here.
The Falcons offence looked as expected. They can move the ball and have lots of weapons, but a little like last season, a lot of their points came once the game was over. 14 of their 25 points came once they had already fallen 19 behind and it is a worry that the stats they put up are a little empty.
This is a get right game for the Cowboys and they can crush the Falcons. Player props here are tempting for all of the receivers and all are backable, but Amari Cooper at better than even money to score a touchdown is what I am plumping for.
