Sacramento Kings name Mike Brown head coach
May 11, 2022

According to Rogers Sportsnet on Sunday, the Sacramento Kings have named Mike Brown of Columbus, Ohio as their next head coach. Brown will not be able to start with the Kings right away. That is because he is still the assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors, and in fact is their temporary head coach for the next while as Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is out with coronavirus.
Brown was in fact behind the bench for Golden State in their game four win on Tuesday, a 101-98 Warriors win over the Memphis Grizzlies. With the win, the Grizzlies took a three games to one series lead in the Western Conference semifinals.
The Kings become the third team Brown will have coached for in his NBA career. He was previously with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005 to 2010, and again from 2013 to 2014. Brown also coached the Los Angeles Lakers from 2011 to 2013. In 563 regular season games, he has a record of 347 wins and 216 losses for a fantastic winning percentage of .616.

In the postseason, Brown has a career record of 47 wins and 36 losses. He helped the Cavaliers reach the 2007 NBA Finals before losing to the San Antonio Spurs in four straight games.
One could make the argument that Brown has been a beneficiary of coaching one of the greatest players of all-time in LeBron James, and that is the reason why he has had so much success as a head coach. Now time will tell, if he is able to generate success in Sacramento. The Kings have not been postseason bound since 2006.
