Atlanta Hawks name 33-year-old Landry Fields general manager
June 15, 2022
According to Rogers Sportsnet on Monday, the Atlanta Hawks have named Landry Fields of Long Beach, California their new general manager. Fields had been the assistant general manager of the Hawks since October 2, 2020, and will continue to work under Travis Schlenk of Seiden, Kansas, who will remain with the role of president of basketball operations.
The Hawks finished with a record of 43 wins and 39 losses during the 2021-22 National Basketball Association regular season. That was good enough for ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
For many years in NBA history, ninth place was not good enough to make the postseason. However due to the ridiculous new NBA playoff format which includes a dumb eight-team play-in tournament, the Hawks got a chance to make the playoffs. Atlanta beat the Charlotte Hornets 132-103 in the 9-10 game, and then the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-101 to determine who was going to be the number eight seed. Then in the actual NBA postseason, the Hawks lost in five games to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

The number one assignment for Fields coming up is to keep building the supporting cast around superstar point guard Trey Young. There is no doubt that Young is one of the most electrifying players in the entire NBA.
Fields has plenty of NBA playing experience. After playing four years of college at the University of Stanford, Fields was selected in the second round, 39th overall by the New York Knicks in the 201o NBA draft. He played two seasons for the Knicks from 2010-12, and then three seasons for the Toronto Raptors from 2012 to 2015. He retired in 2015 following a hip injury that required surgery.
