There is growing speculation at this time this could be the final season for Jalen Duren in Detroit. The 22-year-old All-Star center from Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania has been in talks with Pistons management for a long term contract, but there seems to be a significant gap between what the Pistons management are offering Duren, and the amount of money that Duren’s agent Chafie Fields believes his client should be making.
According to Bryan Toporek of Forbes Magazine, Duren has rejected a five-year contract worth $190 million. Instead, Duren is looking for a contract north of $200 million.
You may think it is only a $10 million gap. However, both sides do not seem to be happy with how the negotiations are going. There is growing speculation that this could be Duren’s final year in Detroit as a result.
One team that has emerged a possible organization that is very interested in Duren is Sacramento. According to Matthew Feldman of Round Table Sports, the Kings reportedly offered a trade with the Pistons recently, which would have seen veteran center Domantas Sabonis go from Sacramento to Detroit for Duren. While the Kings, were very interested in making the move, the Pistons were not.
Now, there is a possibility that the Pistons missed out on an opportunity, and they may not get a better offer on the table. They may risk losing Duren for nothing at the end of the season. Then Duren could end up going to Sacramento as an unrestricted free agent.
Then there is another possibility that Duren could stay in Detroit and the sides could find a common ground. Last year he averaged a career high in points per game (19.5). Duran also had a field goal percentage of .650, free throw percentage of .747, 10.5 rebounds per game, and two assists per game.
