The Los Angeles Lakers have already transformed their roster this offseason. But according to fresh reports out of the United States, the franchise may not be finished, with speculation growing that another blockbuster move could be on the horizon.
After reshaping the team around Luka Dončić following LeBron James’ departure, the Lakers continue to be linked with some of the NBA’s biggest names as they chase another championship window.
The latest rumour, reported by Yahoo Sports, suggests Los Angeles is continuing to explore major trade opportunities despite already sacrificing significant draft capital to acquire standout centre Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz.
The Kessler deal represented a huge statement.

The Lakers sent multiple future first-round picks and pick swaps to Utah before immediately signing the 24-year-old rim protector to a four-year, US$130 million contract. The move addressed one of the franchise’s biggest weaknesses and signalled that management is fully committed to building around Dončić.
But that hasn’t stopped the rumours.
Several US analysts continue to speculate that the Lakers are monitoring opportunities to add another All-Star calibre player, believing the organisation is determined to maximise Dončić’s prime years.
One name that refuses to disappear is Nikola Jokić.
Although there remains no credible indication Denver is actively considering trading the three-time MVP, the Lakers have repeatedly been mentioned as a dream destination should Jokić’s future with the Nuggets ever become uncertain. Jokić has publicly stated he wants to remain in Denver, and there is currently no evidence he has requested a trade.
Other reports have linked Los Angeles to Jonathan Kuminga, with sign-and-trade scenarios continuing to circulate as the Lakers search for more athleticism and scoring on the wing.
Whether another blockbuster is actually possible is another question.
The Kessler trade significantly reduced the Lakers’ remaining draft assets, making it much harder to compete for another superstar unless multiple players are included in any future deal. Analysts have already questioned whether Los Angeles paid too much to land its new starting centre.
That hasn’t cooled expectations around the league.
The Lakers have built a reputation for chasing the biggest names available, and with Dončić now firmly established as the face of the franchise, every superstar who becomes available is likely to be linked with Los Angeles.
For now, though, there is an important distinction.
The Lakers are expected to remain aggressive.
That does not mean a blockbuster trade is imminent.
Much of the current discussion remains speculative rather than being driven by reports that negotiations are actively taking place.
Still, if NBA history has taught fans anything, it’s never wise to completely dismiss the Lakers when a superstar’s name enters the rumour mill.
