The Miami Heat are chasing the biggest prize of the NBA offseason in LeBron James—but they aren’t waiting around if the four-time champion decides to sign elsewhere.
As free agency continues, Miami is reportedly balancing three major roster moves, with LeBron remaining the dream target while Andrew Wiggins and Russell Westbrook have emerged as key pieces of the franchise’s contingency plans.
LeBron remains at the centre of the NBA’s biggest free agency story.
Multiple reports continue to identify the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers as the leading contenders for the 41-year-old superstar, with agent Rich Paul handling negotiations while James weighs what could be the final major decision of his career.

Miami’s pitch is obvious.
The Heat have already assembled a formidable core led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, and adding LeBron would instantly create one of the NBA’s most intimidating “Big Three” combinations.
But Pat Riley’s front office isn’t relying solely on landing James.
Andrew Wiggins, whose name surfaced in trade speculation following Miami’s blockbuster offseason, is now expected to remain a central part of the Heat’s plans after agreeing to a two-year contract extension following the exercise of his player option. The extension secures Wiggins in Miami through at least the 2028-29 season and signals the Heat still view the former No. 1 overall pick as an important piece of their championship ambitions.
At the same time, veteran guard Russell Westbrook has emerged as another player firmly on Miami’s radar.
According to Fox Sports, the Heat are considering Westbrook as a fallback option if they fail to convince LeBron to return to South Beach. While Westbrook wouldn’t replace James’ all-around impact, the former NBA MVP would provide experience, leadership and another proven ball-handler for a team looking to contend immediately.
It’s an aggressive approach.
Rather than placing all of their hopes on one superstar, Miami appears to be preparing for multiple scenarios.
If LeBron says yes, the Heat could field one of the strongest starting line-ups in basketball with James, Antetokounmpo, Adebayo and Wiggins.
If he doesn’t, keeping Wiggins while adding Westbrook would still strengthen a roster determined to challenge in the Eastern Conference.
For now, everything hinges on one decision.
LeBron James remains the player every contender wants.
But regardless of where the four-time MVP lands, the Heat are making sure they’re ready for whatever comes next.
