MR BRIGHTSIDE READY FOR ANOTHER KILLER CAMPAIGN
February 9, 2024
MR BRIGHTSIDE, the nation’s most dependable galloper, resumes in the Orr Stakes and the question as he begins another campaign is can he maintain or even improve on his magnificent output so far.
One of his co-trainers Ben Hayes has always had a theory that Mr Brightside usually improves a half a length every campaign and that’s about the distance he’s away from being a superstar.

Last campaign Mr Brightside had six starts for three wins and two seconds. He started off his campaign with a first-up win in the Group 2 P.B Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield over 1400 metres and that’s where he finds himself again but in Group 1 company.
Mr Brightside loves Caulfield and he ran a fast time of 1.21.71 seconds in his first-up win last spring which was much faster than his win in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at the same track and distance at his next start.

Mr Brightside will have to be wound up to win the Orr Stakes as he takes on two speed machines in Pride Of Jenni and Buffalo River. His jockey Craig Williams should be able to take advantage of their free running styles and give him a great position stalking them.
Co-trainer JD Hayes said on RSN that Mr Brightside is in for another good campaign.
“I’m sure he’s in for a good autumn. He’s ticked every box put in front of him. He’s fit and healthy and we couldn’t be happier with him,” Hayes said.
Hayes said that he could understand cases being built for other horses in the race but he wouldn’t swap him for any other runner.
Another interesting runner is three-year-old colt Veight who won the Australia Stakes first-up. His age group have a great record in the race having won it 17 times and horses from the Australia Stakes have a great record in the Orr Stakes.
Mr Brightside is $1.85 favourite with PlayUp. Veight and Pride Of Jenni are equal second favourites at $6.50
