AFTER Mr Brightside chalked up his sixth Group 1 win when he won the Futurity Stakes, his jockey Craig Williams stated there was no doubt he should be acclaimed as a champion.

“An amazing thoroughbred and we can call him a champion now without using that word too loosely, he’s well performed and just gets the job done all the time at the top level,” Williams said.

Amazingly there are still doubters out there regarding whether Mr Brightside is a champion and last week he wasn’t even named in the top three racehorses in Australia in a social media discussion.

Last week a Sydney based discussion had Fangirl as a clear number one based on her defeat of Mr Brightside in the King Charles Stakes.

Mr Brightside though finished in front of her in the Cox Plate with him finishing second and her seventh. Then in the Cantala Stakes,
Mr Brightside finished second and Fangirl fourth.

Mr Brightside is likely to enhance his reputation by winning his second All-Star Mile at Caulfield on March 16.

If he can then capture the Australian Cup on March 30 that would make a compelling argument that he’s Australia’s best racehorse.

If connections of Imperatriz take on the challenge of running in the Newmarket Handicap and if she was to win it then she certainly assumes the mantle of Australia’s best racehorse if she hasn’t already.
