Miami Heat make NBA history with upset win over the Bucks
April 27, 2023

The Miami Heat made NBA history on Wednesday by becoming only the sixth number eight seed to beat a number one seed in the National Basketball Association postseason.
The Heat accomplished the feat with a dramatic 128-126 overtime win to win the best out of seven series four games to one.
It was a sensational comeback for the Heat. Miami was trailing 102-86 heading into the fourth quarter, when the Heat outscored the Bucks 32-16 in the final 12 minutes in regulation and then 10-8 in extra time.

A major reason for the Heat success over the last two games was the play of Jimmy Butler. After scoring 56 points in game four, he scored 42 points in game five. Center Bam Adebayo had a triple double for Miami, as he had 20 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds.
Miami will play the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Knicks knocked out the Cleveland Cavaliers 106-95 on Wednesday to win the best out of seven series four games to one.

Speaking of the Knicks, they are one of five teams who have been the number eight seed to upset a first seed in the past. They upset the Heat in five games (three games to two) in the first round of the 1998 NBA Playoffs.
The first eighth seed to beat a first seed were the Denver Nuggets, who beat the Seattle Supersonics in five games (three games to two) in 1994. Seattle was once leading that series two games to none before losing the next three games. Since the first round has gone to a best out of seven, the eighth seeded Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks in six games in 2007, the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies beat the San Antonio Spurs in 2011, and the eighth seeded Philadelphia 76ers shocked the Chicago Bulls in 2012.
