Miami Heat come back from remarkable deficits to win first two games in Eastern Finals
September 19, 2020

The Miami Heat have won their first games of the 2020 NBA Eastern Conference Finals. However, it is how they won that deserves high praise.
In game one of the 2020 NBA Eastern Final on Tuesday, the Heat were actually trailing the Boston Celtics 85-71 at the 35 second mark of the fourth quarter. Then Miami outscored Boston 35-21 to force overtime. In the extra period, the Heat outscored the Celtics 11-8 to win the game 117-114.
Then in game two on Thursday, the Heat were down 60-43 with two minutes and 31 seconds left in the first half and won the game 106-101. The 17-point deficit was tied for the largest deficit in Miami Heat playoff history where they ended up winning the game.
There is no doubt that the psyche of the Celtics is terrible at the moment. The Celtics players were very upset they blew back-to-back big leads, and Celtics head coach Brad Stevens met with many of the players until 1 am Friday morning after their second consecutive defeat in a row. Obviously the top subject on the agenda was what to do in order to better protect the Celtics leads.
In game one, Goran Dragic of Ljubljana, Slovenia led the Heat with 29 points. Two other 76ers reached double digits in points, as Jae Crowder of Villa Rica, Georgia had 22 points and Jimmy Butler of Houston, Texas had 2o points. In game two, Dragic once again led the Heat with 25 points. Meanwhile, Bam Adebayo of Newark, New Jersey had a double double, as he had 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Game three of the Eastern Conference Final series between the Celtics and Heat will take place Saturday night. Game one of the Western Conference Final series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets will be on Friday.
