Juan Soto (X)
According to Anthony DiComo of mlb.com on Monday, the New York Mets will not have All-Star outfielder Juan Soto in the lineup for the next two to three weeks because of a calf strain. Soto of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic suffered the injury on Friday in a 10-3 Mets win over the San Francisco Giants. He was in the process of running from first base to third base in the top of the first inning when he experienced tightness.
Soto had got off to a great start for the Mets. He batted .355 with one home run and five runs batted in. During 31 at bats, Soto scored three runs and had 11 hits. During eight games and 34 plate appearances, he had two doubles, three walks, 16 total bases, an on base percentage of .412 and a slugging percentage of .516.
Over the last decade, Soto has been one of the electrifying players in Major League Baseball. Last season he led the National League with 38 stolen bases and an on base percentage of .396. Soto also led the Major Leagues with 127 walks.
One might be surprised that Soto has nine years of Major League Baseball experience and he is only 27 years old. That is because when he was a rookie with the Washington Nationals in 2018, he was only 19 years old. Soto was discussed in the baseball report yesterday as he was the last teenager to play in the Major Leagues as a position player before Konnor Griffin accomplished the feat with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.
The Mets are in a first place tie with the Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. All teams are at six wins and four losses.
