Mets acquire 2B Marcus Semien in trade with Rangers for OF Brandon Nimmo

There was a blockbuster trade in Major League Baseball on Monday according to Rogers Sportsnet. The Texas Rangers have traded second baseman Marcus Semien to the New York Mets for outfielder Brandon Nimmo of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Both players are in their 30’s, as Semien is 35 years old and Nimmo is 32 years old.
Semien is joining his fifth Major League Baseball franchise. He was previously with the Chicago White Sox from 2013 to 2014, the Oakland Athletics from 2015 to 2020, the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021, and since the 2022 season, Semien has been with the Texas Rangers.
Semien was a three-time MLB All-Star. He was honoured with the Blue Jays in 2021, and twice more with the Rangers in 2023 and 2024. While with the Rangers in 2023, Semien led the Major Leagues in runs scored (122), and hits (185), and won the World Series.
This past season Semien won the Gold Glove award in the American League at second base. He had a fielding percentage of .996. Offensively, Semien batted .230 with 15 home runs and 62 runs batted in. During 127 games, 470 at bats and 534 plate appearances, he scored 62 runs and had 108 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, 11 stolen bases, 50 walks, 171 total bases, nine sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .305, and a slugging percentage of .364.
Nimmo has played the last decade with the Mets. In 2025, he batted .262 with 25 home runs and 92 runs batted in. During 155 games, 587 at bats, and 652 plate appearances, Nimmo scored 81 runs and had 154 hits, 27 doubles, 13 stolen bases, 50 walks, 256 total bases, one sacrifice bunt, seven sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .324 and a slugging percentage of .436.
