Earlier in the season, the Memphis Grizzlies had an outstanding stretch of games without their star player, Ja Morant of Dalzell, South Carolina. Well, it appears they are able to win with Morant too.
After the Grizzlies’ 116-108 upset win over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, Memphis has now won a franchise best 10 straight games. Memphis actually set a franchise record with their ninth straight win on Sunday with a 127-119 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Their previous record was eight straight games, which they achieved on four separate occasions according to the Associated Press.
During the streak, the Grizzlies also beat the Sacramento Kings 127-102 on Boxing Day, the Phoenix Suns 114-113 on December 27, the Lakers 104-99 on December 29, the San Antonio Spurs 118-105 on New Year’s Eve, the Brooklyn Nets 118-104 on January 3, the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-106 on January 4, the Detroit Pistons 118-88 on January 6, and the Los Angeles Clippers 123-108 on January 8. In the 10 games, Morant has been the Grizzlies’ leading scorer on seven occasions, including 41 points in the win over the Lakers on December 29.
This past week Morant was the Western Conference Player of the Week. He averaged 25 points, 6.8 assists and 6.3 rebounds. However, it was an amazing block on a Avery Bradley layup attempt on Sunday night against the Lakers that has the basketball world buzzing according to Jill Painter Lopez of the Associated Press.
On Tuesday, the Grizzlies improved to 29 wins and 14 losses against a Warriors team that has the second best record in the NBA. Six Grizzlies players reached double digits in scoring with Morant leading the way with 29 points.
