On the day after the 2024 National Basketball Association Draft, the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons traded shooting guards. The Mavericks traded Tim Hardaway Jr. of Orinda, California to the Pistons for Quentin Grimes of Houston, Texas. In addition to Hardaway Jr., the Pistons are receiving three NBA draft picks. The draft picks are all in the second round. Detroit is receiving one second round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and two second round picks in the 2028 NBA Draft.
Hardaway Jr. is joining his fourth NBA franchise. He was previously with the New York Knicks for four seasons (2013 to 2015, and again from 2017 to 2019), two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks (2015 to 2017), and six seasons with the Dallas Mavericks (2019 to 2024). Tim Hardaway Jr. is the son of former NBA star Tim Hardaway Sr. of Chicago, Illinois. Currently a scout by the New York Knicks, Hardaway Sr. was a NBA All-Star with the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat.
Grimes shared his last time last year with the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons. He averaged seven points a game last season.
