Matt Fitzpatrick of Sheffield, England has won the 2026 RBC Heritage from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Fitzpatrick posted a 72 hole score of -18 and beat American Scottie Scheffler in a playoff. I hope you read the “Three Golfers Who Could Win The 2026 RBC Heritage” post this past week because two of the three golfers featured were Fitzpatrick and Scheffler.
This was Fitzpatrick’s second win at the RBC Heritage. He previously won in 2023 with a score of -17. Overall, Fitzpatrick has now won four PGA events. The other two were the 2022 United States Open and the 2026 Valspar Championship.
In Hilton Head over the last four days, there was one other golfer in contention. That was Si Woo Kim of South Korea, who finished in third place at -16.
Fitzpatrick had one eagle on the weekend. That came on the par five 15th hole on Saturday in round three. Fitzpatrick had a tee shot of 299 yards, approach shot of 278 yards and an eagle putt of 29 feet and nine inches.
In the fourth round, Fitzpatrick had an opportunity to win the tournament outright. However, he bogeyed the 18th hole, and a playoff occurred as a result. On the 73rd hole, Fitzpatrick won the tournament with a birdie.
Interestingly, this was Fitzpatrick’s second PGA Tour win in a playoff. The first also came at Hilton Head, as three years ago he beat Jordan Spieth on a third extra hole.
Fitzpatrick is the third golfer in 2026 to win in a playoff. Chris Gotterup of Easton, Maryland won the Phoenix Open over Hideki Matsuyama and Akshay Bhatia of Northridge, California beat Daniel Berger at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Interestingly, Gotterup and Fitzpatrick are the only two PGA Tour golfers to win two PGA Tour events in 2026.
