Marvin Jones Jr. has second stint with Detroit

According to Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report on Thursday, the Detroit Lions have decided to bring back wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. of Los Angeles, California. The terms of the contract are for one year and $3 million. The 33-year-old product from the University of California, initially played for the Lions from 2016 to 2020, before playing the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jones Jr. also played three NFL seasons (2012, 2013, and 2015) with the Cincinnati Bengals. He missed the entire 2014 National Football League season with an ankle injury.
In 2022, Jones Jr. had 46 catches for 529 yards and three touchdowns. He also had four catches for 50 yards and one touchdown in two playoff games. During the regular season on October 9, Jones Jr. had a season-high 104 yards receiving in a 13-6 Jaguars loss to the Houston Texans. It was one of only three wins the Texans had all season. They also beat the Tennessee Titans 19-14 on December 24 and the Indianapolis Colts 32-31 on January 8.

Jones’s postseason catch came in Jacksonville’s remarkable 31-30 comeback win over the Los Angeles Chargers in one of six NFL wildcard games on the schedule. Jacksonville was once down 27-0 to the Chargers in the second quarter before winning the contest 31-30. It was the third biggest comeback in NFL history. Jones’s touchdown catch was from Trevor Lawrence and was for six yards. At the time, the Chargers had a 27-14 lead.
In Jones’s career, he has 542 catches for 7386 yards and 58 touchdowns. While with the Lions in 2017, he led the NFL with 18 yards per catch, and had a career-high 1101 yards receiving.
The Lions made strides in 2022. They had a record of nine wins and eight losses after having a record of three wins, 13 losses and one tie in 2021.
