Titans to get a boost with return of Corey Davis
October 22, 2020
The Tennessee Titans are one of the biggest stories of the 2020 National Football League seasons so far to date. Despite 23 coronavirus cases within their organization, they have a perfect record of five wins and zero losses after six weeks of the season.
Among those players who tested positive was wide receiver Corey Davis of Chicago, Illinois. Davis has not played since week two, as he missed the last two games due to a positive test on October 7.
In three games prior to getting COVID-19, Davis has looked very comfortable as the number two receiver option in the Titans offense. So far, he has caught 15 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown.
Heading into the season, A.J. Brown was supposed to be the Titans number one wideout. However, Brown has not been the star the Titans have been hoping for so far this season. Due to a knee injury, Brown only has played three games himself, and has caught 17 passes for 177 yards.
After five weeks, players on the Titans from the tight end position have exceeded expectations. Jonnu Smith leads Tennessee with 234 receiving yards, and Anthony Firkser is fourth on the team with 182 receiving yards, five more yards than Brown.
Now that Davis and Brown will be playing together in the same game for Tennessee for only the second time this year on Sunday against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, it will be interesting to see if there is a drop off in production to Smith, Firkser, and the other Titans wide receiver in Adam Humphries. The Titans passing game has looked good all year with quarterback Ryan Tannehill comfortable at the helm.
One must also realize that what drives the Titans offense is running back Derrick Henry. With 588 rushing yards, Henry leads the entire NFL. He has 83 more yards than Clyde Edwards-Helaire of the Kansas City Chiefs, who is second with 505 yards.
