Raiders sign cornerback Rasul Douglas
April 22, 2021

According to Schuyler Callihan of Sports Illustrated on Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders have signed cornerback Rasul Douglas of East Orange, New Jersey. The length of the contract or its financial terms have not yet been released. Douglas had spent the last four seasons in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers.
Last season in Carolina, Douglas had career highs in combined tackles (62), solo tackles (50), and assisted tackles (12). He also had nine pass deflections and one tackle for a loss.
Douglas has played in 60 games in his National Football League career since joining the Eagles in 2017. He was with Philadelphia for three seasons before joining the Panthers for one season in 2020. For his career, Douglas has had 180 combined tackles (145 solo tackles and 35 assisted tackles), 10 tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, five interceptions for 21 yards, and 34 pass deflections. All five of Douglas’s interceptions came while he played cornerback for the Eagles in 2017 and 2018.
Douglas was also on the Eagles team that won the 2018 Super Bowl. The Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33 at the United States Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Prior to playing in the NFL, Douglas played his college football at the University of West Virginia. He was the third-round draft pick, 99th overall, by the Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft.
With the Raiders in 2021, there is a possibility that Douglas could be a starting cornerback according to fantasyalarm.com. The Raiders had a disastrous season defensively in 2020 as they gave up 478 points, the second most in the AFC. In addition to Douglas, the Raiders signed linebacker Yannick Ngakoue to a two-year deal worth $26 million at the beginning of NFL free agency in March to improve their defense.
