NFLPA investigates injury to Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor
September 25, 2020
The National Football League Players Association is now investigating the latest injury to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor of Hampton, Virginia. The injury to Taylor this past weekend was completely bizarre. According to Homero DeLaFuente and Leah Asmelash of CNN on Wednesday, the reason why Taylor did not play on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs is because he was receiving a pain-killer injection shot by the team doctor for sore ribs, but the doctor accidentally punctured Taylor’s lung.
As a result, Taylor was taken to hospital due to problems with breathing. He is not expected to be the starting quarterback for the Chargers this weekend either against the Carolina Panthers. In the opening game of the Chargers season on September 13, Taylor led the Chargers to a 16-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Taylor completed 16 of 30 passes for 208 yards and seven yards rushing. The Chargers won the game when Bengals kicker Randy Bullock missed a 32 yard field goal with two seconds left. If Bullock had made the field goal, the Bengals would have forced overtime.
The Chargers game against the Chiefs on Sunday also came down to the wire. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker of Decatur, Georgia kicked two 58 yard field goals in a 23-20 overtime win for Kansas City. With the loss of Taylor, Justin Herbert of Eugene, Oregon was the Chargers starting quarterback, and completed 22 of 33 passes for 311 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also had four rushing carries for 18 yards and another major score.

L’Jarius Sneed recorded the Chiefs interception. It came on a play when Herbert was trying to make a big play, instead of running for the first down. According to Tony Romo of CBS Sports, Herbert made a “rookie mistake.” When Taylor is ready to return, Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn has already stated Taylor will be the Chargers starting quarterback.
