Davis Love III named American captain for 2022 Presidents Cup

According to Helen Ross of the PGA Tour on Tuesday, Davis Love III of Charlotte, North Carolina, will be the captain of the United States for the 2022 Presidents Cup. The tournament has special meaning for Love because the tournament is taking place at Quail Hollow, which is located in Love’s birthplace of Charlotte. It will take place from September 22 to 25.
This will be the first time that Love will be the American captain at the Presidents Cup. He was previously the American captain at the 2012 and 2016 Ryder Cups. In 2012 from Chicago, the United States lost to Europe 14.5 to 13.5, while in 2016 in Minneapolis, the United States beat Europe 17-11.
The International Team named Trevor Immelman of South Africa their team captain on April 6, 2020. Love and Immelman have each won one career major. Love was victorious at the 1997 PGA Championship, and Immelman won the 2008 Masters.
The United States won the 2019 Presidents Cup with Tiger Woods as team captain. The Americans won by a score of 16-14, with Woods also playing on the team. During the four-day event, Woods won his fourball and foursome match with Justin Thomas, and then beat Abraham Ancer of Mexico 3 & 2 in singles action. Woods has already indicated to Love that he wants to be on the 2022 American team as a player even though he is currently having back trouble.
The 2021 Presidents Cup moved from 2021 to 2022 because the 2020 Ryder Cup was moved to 2021 due to coronavirus. The American captain is Steve Stricker of Edgerton, Wisconsin, while the European captain is Padraig Harrington of Ireland.
