Cameron Young leads after first round of 2022 British Open
July 15, 2022
The first round of the 2022 British Open is in the books, and the American PGA rookie whose last name is Young, and is sponsored by Major League Baseball, finds himself at the top of the leaderboard for the final major of the 2022 men’s golf season. What Cameron Young of Scarborough, New York was able to accomplish on Thursday was downright sizzling.
Young shot a first round score of eight-under-par 64. Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy of Hollywood, Northern Ireland is in second place at -6. Australia’s Cameron Smith (one of our three picks to win the 2022 British Open) and England’s Robert Dinwiddie are tied for third place at -5.
Young was an early leader and played the game of ‘Catch Me if You Can.’ He had eight birdies and zero bogeys. Young birdied the second, third, fifth, sixth, ninth, 11th, 12th and 18th holes. One of Young’s most impressive shots was the tee shot on the par three 11th hole. The shot from the tee left Young only eight yards away from the hole, which he sunk in for a birdie.

Due to the fact Young had an early start time on Thursday, means he will have a rather later tee time on Friday for round two. Young’s second round tee time is 1:26 pm BST.
Of the players in contention at the moment, there is only one major champion. That is McIlroy, who has won the 2011 United States Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, and the 2014 British Open. When McIlroy won the British Open eight years ago, the tournament was at Royal Liverpool.
