Bills sign running back Damien Harris and wide receiver Trent Sherfield

According to spotrac.com on Monday, the Buffalo Bills signed two offensive position players. They came to terms with wide receiver Trent Sherfield on a one-year contract worth $1.77 million and running back Damien Harris on an undisclosed amount.

For Sherfield, the Bills will be his fourth National Football League franchise. He has previously played with the Arizona Cardinals (2018 to 2020), the San Francisco 49ers (2021), and Miami Dolphins (2022). This past season in Miami, Sherfield had 30 catches for 417 yards and two touchdowns. In his career, Sherfield has 67 catches for 844 yards and four touchdowns.

Harris is joining his second National Football League franchise after four seasons with the New England Patriots from 2019 to 2022. In 11 games in 2022, Harris had 106 rushes for 462 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also had 17 catches for 97 receiving yards. In 38 games over four seasons, Harris has 449 rushes for 2094 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns, along with 40 catches for 281 yards.

Prior to his NFL career, Harris had a standout National Collegiate Athletic Association time frame. He was on two Alabama Crimson Tide squads that won the College Football Championship. In 2016, Alabama beat Clemson 45-40, and in 2018, Alabama beat Georgia 26-23.

It appears Harris will be replacing Devin Singletary of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Singletary signed a one year deal worth $3.75 million with the Houston Texans on Monday. Harris will now be part of a Bills backfield that includes James Cook of Miami, Florida, Nyheim Hines of Garner, North Carolina, and fullback Reggie Gilliam of Columbus, Ohio.

Expectations were high in Buffalo in 2022. However they did not meet expectations as the Bills lost 27-10 to the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 AFC Divisional Playoff.  Are the moves to add Harris and Sherfield enough to help the Bills win their first Super Bowl in franchise history?
