It appears LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, will not be retiring or leaving the Los Angeles Lakers anytime soon. On Thursday, the Lakers made headlines at the NBA Draft, when they selected LeBron’s son Bronny with the second overall pick, 55th overall. This means that LeBron James will be able to fulfill a life long dream, and have a chance to play with his 20-year-old son for the 2024-25 National Basketball Association regular season.
Bronny James was a freshman shooting guard from the University of South Carolina Trojans. Still, the fact that Bronny got drafted at all could be considered a little surprising when you analyze his statistics. That is because he only averaged 4.8 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game. In 25 games, of which Bronny only started six contests, he had a field goal percentage of .366, free throw percentage of .676, and three-point percentage of .267.
Three times James reached double figures in points for the Trojans. He had 15 points in an 86-70 loss to the Oregon State Beavers on December 30, 10 points in an 82-74 Trojans win over the University of California Golden Bears on January 3, and 11 points in an 82-67 Trojans loss to the University of Arizona Wildcats.
Bronny James was one of two players the Lakers selected in the 2024 NBA Draft. The first was small forward Dalton Knecht of Fargo, North Dakota. Knecht was selected in the first round, 17th overall, out of the University of Tennessee.
The Lakers did win the silly in-season tournament last season, but at the end of the day more was expected from this group. They finished in seventh place in the Western Conference standings before losing in the first round to the Denver Nuggets.
