February 13, 2021
The Los Angeles Lakers have been winning a lot of basketball games as of late, but lately, they have needed to grind it out significantly before picking up the W. On Wednesday, the Lakers became the first team in the NBA in 14 years to win three consecutive games, of which all needed extra time, according to Ronald Agers of Fansided.
The streak started on Saturday, when the Lakers beat the Detroit Pistons 135-129. This game actually went into double overtime, as the Lakers and Pistons were tied at 106 after regulation, and 118 after the first overtime. The Lakers’ top player in the contest was LeBron James, who had 33 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Davis also scored 30 points.
Then on Monday, the Lakers defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 119-112. This time James had a triple-double, as he scored 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. Kyle Kuzma had a double-double, as he had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
On Wednesday, the Lakers came back from a 20-point deficit in the second quarter to come away with a 114-113 win over the Thunder. James once again led the Lakers in scoring, as he had 25 points.

The last team to win three consecutive games that all needed overtime were the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2007. The Lakers also became the seventh team ever to win three straight games, which needed more than 48 minutes to play in each.
The Lakers got revenge against the Pistons during the streak. On January 28, Los Angeles was upset 107-92 by Detroit for their second straight road loss, after opening the season with 10 straight road wins.
The Lakers are currently at 20 wins and six losses. They are half a game back of the Utah Jazz for first place in the Western Conference.
