Kokkinakis wins opening qualifier at Indian Wells Masters

After helping the Australian Davis Cup team to victory against Hungary on Saturday, Thanasi Kokkinakis has won his qualifying match at the Indian Wells Masters tournament today.
The Australian beat Thomas Fabbiano in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
It has been a mammoth few months for Kokkinakis, winning his first ATP Tour singles title in his hometown, Adelaide, and triumphing in the Australian Open doubles, partnered by long-time friend Nick Kyrgios.
Up next was the Davis Cup where Kokkinakis beat Zsombor Piros 6-4, 6-4 in the deciding qualifying singles round in the fifth and final match at Ken Rosewall Stadium in Sydney.
It will be interesting to see how Kokkinakis fares in the next stage of the Indian Wells Masters.
In other news, Australian Aleksandar Vukic beat Italian Salvatore Caruso 6-2, 6-2 in his opening qualifying match.
Astra Sharma won her first match beating China’s Yue Yuan 6-2, 7-5 but was defeated by Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 4-6, 1-6 in the second qualifying round. Maddison Inglis was beaten by Hungary’s Dalma Galfi 6-4, 3-6, 3-6.
Daria Gavrilova beat Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5, 6-3 in her opening match and Magdalena Frech of Poland 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 in the second qualifying match. Priscilla Hon lost to France’s Harmony Tan, 6-3, 6-4 in the first qualifying round.
Matches are still be played throughout the day with John Millman, Alex Bolt, Max Purcell, and Christopher O’Connell all featuring in the qualifiers.
