Knicks guard Jalen Brunson scores 55 points in Knicks overtime win over Wizards

New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson of New Brunswick, New Jersey recorded 50 points in a game for the third time in his National Basketball Association career on Saturday. He accomplished the feat by scoring 55 points in a 136-132 Knicks overtime win over the Washington Wizards at the Capital One Arena in Washington, District of Columbia.
Brunson made 18 of 31 field goals, three of 11 three point shots, and 16 of 17 free throws. He added nine assists, three rebounds and was a +1. Three more Knicks reached double digits in points. Center Karl-Anthony Towns of Edison, New Jersey had 30 points, small forward Mikal Bridges of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania had 21 points, and shooting guard Josh Hart of Silver Spring, Maryland had 13 points.
The first time Brunson reached the 50 point plateau in a game came on December 15, 2023. He scored 50 points exactly in a 139-122 Knicks win over the Phoenix Suns. The second time Brunson reached the 50 point plateau in a game came on March 29, 2024. Brunson scored 61 points in a 130-126 Knicks loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
This was the second time this month a NBA player scored 50 points against the Washington Wizards. Nikola Jokic had 56 points in a 122-113 Denver Nuggets loss to the Wizards on December 7.Â
So far this season, Brunson is averaging 25.5 points per game, 7.7 assists per game, and three rebounds per game. He has a field goal percentage of .487, three point percentage of .410, and a free throw percentage of .821.
The Knicks now have a record of 22 wins and 1o losses for a winning percentage of .688. That is the third best record in the Eastern Conference.
