Klay Thompson set to face Warriors on opening night of NBA Cup

Klay Thompson will face the Warriors for the first time since leaving for Dallas over the offseason when the two teams meet on the opening day of the NBA’s In-Season Tournament on November 12th.

It will prove an emotional return to The Bay for Thompson who spent the first 13 seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the franchise having secured four titles, been selected as an All-Star on five occasions, and formed the greatest shooting duo in the sport’s history.

The 34-year-old signed a three-year, $50 million deal with the defending Western Conference champion Mavericks in July after being unable to agree to terms on a contract with Golden State.

Thompson is coming off an up-and-down season in which he was demoted to the bench in February before returning to the starting lineup to close the season.

The Warriors however fell short of the playoffs going down to the Kings in the play-in as Thompson finished the year averaging 17.9 ppg shooting 38.7% on 9.0 nightly threes.

For the Emirates NBA Cup, the Mavericks find themselves in West Group C alongside the Warriors, Nuggets, Grizzlies and Pelicans.
