Kiwis out to defend Pacific Cup crown

The 2024 Pacific Championships are set to kick-off in Christchurch on October 27th with Stacey Jones’ Kiwis eyeing back-to-back titles.

It will mark Jones’ first tournament in charge after Michael Maguire departed the team following their successful Pacific Championships display a year ago.

The tournament will again be split into two tiers with New Zealand competing for the Pacific Cup alongside Australia and Samoa whilst Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and the Cook Islands will battle it out for the Pacific Bowl.

The Kiwis open their tournament against the Kangaroos at Apollo Projects Stadium in Christchurch before facing off against Tonga at Go Media Stadium in Auckland.

The tournament’s Final will be played in Sydney which has the potential to be the Kangaroos’ first clash in Sydney since taking down Lebanon at Allianz Stadium at the 2017 World Cup.

Samoa – who competed in the Pacific Cup in 2023 – will embark on an historic tour of England boosted by the commitment of 2018 Dally M Medalist Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
