January 14, 2020
The Kansas City Chiefs delivered one of the most spectacular comebacks in National Football League history on Sunday. Trailing 24-0 to the Houston Texans five minutes into the second quarter, the Chiefs went on a touchdown barrage in their AFC Divisional Playoff matchup. Over the next nine minutes, the Chiefs scored four touchdowns to take a 28-24 lead en route to a 51-31 win. They became the first team in NFL history to be trailing by 24 points and be leading at halftime.
However that was not the only spectacular record which was set on Sunday. According to the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs became the first team to win a playoff game by 20 points after losing by 20 points. The Chiefs and Texans also set the NFL record for most points in the first half of a playoff game (52) as the Chiefs had a 28-24 lead.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce also set NFL playoff records. Mahomes became the first NFL player to have 300 passing yards, 50 rushing yards and five touchdowns in one playoff game. Kelce became the first football player since the start of the Super Bowl in 1966 to have three touchdown catches in a single playoff quarter.
The Chiefs will now host the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship on Sunday. Tennessee beat the Baltimore Ravens 28-12 in the other AFC Divisional playoff matchup. The Ravens had seven turnovers in the defeat.
The NFC Championship will have the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Green Bay Packers. This past weekend, the 49ers beat the Minnesota Vikings 27-10 and the Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-23.
