Journey to the Group 1 Empire Rose

Mystic Journey is back in action on Saturday when she lines up in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes over 1400 metres at Flemington.

The inaugural All-Star mile winner will head to Flemington fully wound up after the three trials at home in Tasmania.

The six-year-old was last seen at the races back in March where she came out of the run with some issues. However, trainer Adam Trinder is confident she’s right to go heading into her return to the track this weekend.

“She’s coming off knee surgery, she pulled up with chips off the back of her last start in the Blamey at Flemington but everything has gone really well with the surgery.

“She’s definitely ready to head back to the races, record at Flemington is exemplary. She’s got all the base and foundation in her, steps to 1400 first up which is a tried and tested template which works for her so I’d be disappointed if she couldn’t show up,” said Trinder.

Last preparation the superstar mare went under at $1.10 and $1.20, first and second up but Trinder believes although she ran well, in hindsight her knee issue may have been the reason why she didn’t quite finish off in those two runs.

Mystic Journey has drawn barrier 12 with Luke Nolen to ride.

“She’s going to go back, a pass mark would be to hit the line and top 3. She’s wound up and she’s there to give an accurate account of herself,” Trinder said.

If all goes well on Saturday the plan will be for her to run in the Rose of Kingston Stakes on Turnbull Stakes day before ending up in the Group 1 Empire Rose on Derby day.

“Our main target is to get back to Flemington the first day of the carnival over the mile.”

Mystic Journey is currently a $21 chance for the Group 1 Empire Rose next month.
