The Philadelphia Eagles will start Joe Milton at quarterback against the New York Giants in Week 9, replacing Tanner McKee, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Milton will be Philadelphia’s third different starting quarterback this season, ESPN reported. The Eagles had not officially announced the change at the time of writing.
McKee has started the past three games, completing 63.2 per cent of his passes for 638 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Eagles (2-6) have lost six games in a row and sit last in the NFC East.
The switch comes two days after coach Nick Sirianni backed McKee following Philadelphia’s 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders. “Tanner is our guy,” Sirianni said on Monday (US time), as reported by Eagles Wire.
Why the Eagles are on their third starter
The Eagles signed Milton off the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad on 16 October, one day before they placed Jalen Hurts on injured reserve. The team and Hurts’ agent later announced the franchise quarterback would be sidelined indefinitely after doctors found multiple blood clots in both of his lungs, and sources told ESPN and NFL Network that Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Who is Joe Milton?
Milton was a sixth-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft and joined the Cowboys in a trade in April 2025. He spent last season as Dak Prescott’s backup in Dallas, appearing in four games off the bench.
He was waived by the Cowboys after losing this year’s training camp battle with Sam Howell for the backup job, but Dallas brought him back to the practice squad days later. The Giants game will be his first NFL start with the Eagles.
