Jets name Darren Mougey general manager
January 29, 2025
According to Michael Zimmelman of Last Word on Sports on Sunday, the New York Jets have named Darren Mougey of Scottsdale, Arizona as their new general manager. Mougey replaces interim general manager Phil Savage of Mobile, Alabama. Savage replaced Joe Douglas temporarily, after Douglas was fired as the Jets general manager on November 19.
It is interesting that the Jets named a new head coach for the 2025 National Football League season before a general manager. On January 22, the Jets named Aaron Glenn of Humble, Texas as their new bench boss.
Expectations were rather high in New York this past year with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. However, the team did not meet expectations as they had a record of five wins and 12 losses, including a five game losing streak in the early stages of the season.
Mougey has been with the Denver Broncos the last 13 years. He was their scouting intern (2012), their personnel and scouting assistant (2013), their area scout for six seasons (2014 to 2019), their assistant director of college scouting (2020), their director of player personnel (2021), and assistant general manager (2022 to 2024). While as an area scout in 2016, the Broncos won the Super Bowl. They defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50.
Mougey is the third youngest general manager in the NFL at age 39. The only two general managers who are younger are Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry of Bel Air, Maryland and Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles of Canandaigua, New York. Berry is 37 years old and Poles is five months younger than Mougey.
