In an interesting trade on Wednesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars decided to deal Nick Foles to the Chicago Bears for a fourth round draft pick according to Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report. The Bears become Foles’s fifth National Football League team. In addition to the Jaguars, he has also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs.
There is no doubt that 2019 was difficult for Foles as he broke his clavicle in the first week of the NFL season in a 40-26 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He did not play until November 17 as he suited up for the Indianapolis Colts in a 33-13 Jaguars loss. Foles then started two more games for Jacksonville in losses to the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being benched by Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone, who decided to go with rookie Gardner Minshew II as the Jaguars starting quarterback instead.
In four games in 2019, Foles had 77 completions in 117 attempts for three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had 736 yards and a quarterback rating of 84.6.
Foles had his finest regular season in 2013 with the Eagles. That year he went to the Pro Bowl as he had a record of eight wins and two losses in 10 games, completed 203 of 317 pass attempts, 2891 yards passing, and a marvelous touchdown to interception ratio of 27:2. Foles also led the NFL with 9.1 yards per attempt and a quarterback rating of 119.2.
It is now interesting to see what the Bears decide to do. Will Foles be the backup or battle Mitch Trubisky for the starting quarterbacking job? My feeling is they will give Trubisky one more shot to prove himself. However time will tell, and Trubisky will definitely be on a shorter leash than he was during 2019.
What Foles does have going for him is an excellent playoff resume. In 2017, Foles guided the Eagles to a Super Bowl title and was even named the Super Bowl MVP.
