The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired linebacker Joe Schobert of Waukesha, Wisconsin from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday according to Grant Gordon of nfl.com on Thursday. All we know at this time is that the Steelers are giving the Jaguars a draft pick, but we do not know the year or the round the draft pick will be used.
The Steelers will be Schobert’s third National Football League franchise following  four seasons with the Cleveland Browns from 2016 to 2019, and one season with the Jaguars in 2020. Last year, Schobert played in all 16 games with the Jaguars, and had 141 combined tackles (84 solo tackles and 57 assisted tackles), six tackles for a loss, six quarterback hits, two and a half sacks, four pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.
Also in 2020 with Jacksonville, Schobert had career highs in interceptions (three), yardage from interceptions (45), and his first pick six. The interception for a touchdown came in a 27-24 Jaguars loss to the underachieving Minnesota Vikings on December 6.
Schobert was on a Jaguars team that only won one game in 2020. That came in week one when the Jaguars upset the Indianapolis Colts 27-20. As a result of their 1-15 finish, they had the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, where they selected quarterback Trevor Lawrence from Clemson.
Schobert’s Pro Bowl season came with the Browns in 2017. That year he led the NFL with 144 combined tackles.
Humorously, the person who broke the news that Joe Schobert had been traded was Joe’s wife Megan according to Andrew McCarty of Sports Illustrated. Megan sent out a tweet saying, “Yinz are going to love this!!” Yinz are people in western Pennsylvania, where Pittsburgh is located.
