Jaguars fire Dave Caldwell as general manager
December 2, 2020

According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN on Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars have fired general manager Dave Caldwell of Buffalo, New York. It was clearly a disappointing season for the Jags, as they are currently last in the AFC South with a record of one win, and 10 losses. In fact, Jacksonville has the second-worst record in the entire National Football League. The only team this season which has been worse are the New York Jets at zero wins and 11 losses.
Caldwell had been the general manager of the Jaguars since the 2013 season. Over the eight seasons, he had a record of 37 wins and 86 losses.
However, it was not all bad for Caldwell in his time in northern Florida. In 2017, the Jaguars won the AFC South with a record of 10 wins and six losses. The Jaguars would go on to beat the Buffalo Bills 10-3 in the AFC Wildcard, and the Pittsburgh Steelers 45-42 in the AFC Divisional Playoff, before narrowly losing 24-20 to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship. The Jaguars actually had a 20-10 lead in the fourth quarter before Tom Brady delivered his usual late-game magical heroics.
In 2020, things actually got off to a really good start for Jacksonville. They won their first game by upsetting the Indianapolis Colts 27-20. From there, however, it has been a huge struggle for Jacksonville. They have gone through a tough 10-game losing streak. Over that time, they have been outscored 305-200.

One positive for Jacksonville has been their running game. Running back James Robinson has 890 yards rushing, which is third in the NFL behind Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans (1257 yards), and Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings (1130 yards). The new Jaguars general manager will definitely have some pieces to work with, as there is not much wrong with the Jaguars running game and offensive line.
