It was simply a magical weekend for Jackson Koivun of San Jose, California. The 21-year-old won on the PGA Tour on Sunday in only his fourth professional start in 2026. Koivun is the youngest golfer to win one the PGA Tour in 2026 and was the 10th youngest winner ever.
Koivun posted a winning score of -25 at the 3M Open in Minnesota, and beat the heavy favourite in the process. The world number one and four-time major champion Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey was three strokes back at -22.
Over the weekend, Koivun had a first round score of seven-under-par 64, second round score of three-under-par 68, third round score of ten-under-par 61, and a fourth round score of five-under-par 66. In a magical third round, Koivun had two eagles. He posted a score of three on the par five 12th hole, and par five 18th hole. On the 12th hole, Koivun had a 283 yard tee shot, 305 yard approach shot, and a putt of 12 feet and three inches. On he 18th hole, Koivun had a 330 yard tee shot, 233 yard approach shot, and a putt of 13 feet and eight inches.
Koivun moved from 206th in the world to 73rd in the world with the win. That is a rise of 133 places in the Official World Golf Rankings. Koivu’s other results in 2026 were a 23rd place at the United States Open, missed cut at the John Deere Classic in Illinois, and a 10th place finish at the ISCO Championship in Kentucky.
The other big story of the week was the fact that Michael Kim of San Diego, California shot a second round score of 59. He finished the tournament tied for 10th place at -17.
This is the fifth second place finish of 2026 for Scheffler. He was also the runner-up at the Masters, RBC Heritage, Cadillac Championship and Travelers Championship.
