Irish Flame makes it three wins in a row taking out a thrilling edition of the Ballarat Cup.
At long-odds ($19 TAB Starting Price), the seven-year-old New Zealand runner was able to stay the 2000 metre race in what was a blanket finish.
The Brett Scott trained runner was super brave holding out the fast finishing favourite, Affair To Remember, by 0.1 lengths
“I’ll tell you what, he had a wide gate and he didn’t get any favours in the run.
“He’s just a good, tough stayer,” Brett Scott said on the Racing.com broadcast.
Irish Flame ended up being cast wide throughout the race and probably had no right to win from where he was situated.
“He was three-deep without cover for the whole trip and he came off the bridal just before the corner.
“It was a good solid tempo. I thought, (he) might be in a bit of trouble here but he’s tough,” Scott said.
Jockey, Michael Walker, was left shaking his head when out deep but maintained his cool and kept Irish Flame comfortable.
