According to Sam Quinn of CBS Sports on Sunday, the Atlanta Hawks have named Quin Snyder of Mercer Island, Washington as their new head coach. Snyder takes over from Nate McMillan of Raleigh, North Carolina, who was fired on February 21.
After the Hawks let McMillan go, Atlanta named Joe Prunty as their interim head coach. With Prunty as the bench boss, the Hawks actually played some marvelous basketball. They clobbered the Cleveland Cavaliers 136-119 on Friday, and then narrowly beat the Brooklyn Nets 129-127 on Sunday.
Snyder spent eight seasons as the head coach of the Utah Jazz from 2014 to 2022. In 636 regular season games, the Jazz had a record of 372 wins and 264 losses for an impressive winning percentage of .585. Also in the regular season, Snyder led the Jazz to three Northwest Division titles in 2016-17, 2020-21, and 2021-22. In 2020-21, the Jazz had the best record in the entire National Basketball Association for the regular season at 52 wins and 20 losses.

The Jazz did make the playoffs in six of the eight seasons with Snyder as their coach. However, Utah was unable to reach the Western Conference Finals. Over the last year, the Jazz have made some major roster changes in trading Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland and Rudy Gobert to Minnesota, as Jazz Chief Executive Officer of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge believed the current Jazz roster had maxed out their production, and a new group of talent was needed in Utah for future success.
The Hawks are currently eighth in the Eastern Conference. They have a record of 31 wins and 30 losses.
