It should come as absolutely no surprise whatsoever that three PGA players have tested positive for coronavirus. With coronavirus numbers extremely high in the state of Florida, and the Players Championship taking place this past week at 20% (roughly 10,000 fans per day) outside of Jacksonville, one would have expected more positive cases.

As the Honda Classic is set to start on Thursday in Miami, they will do so without 2019 U.S. Open champion Garry Woodland, Scott Piercy, and Doc Redman, who all have the disease, according to Bob Harig of ESPN. All three were at the Players Championship this past weekend, while Piercy was the only golfer to make the cut.

The state of Florida continues to be decimated by coronavirus, yet professional sports are continuing with spectators. There are currently 653,377 active cases of coronavirus in the state of Florida and there have been 32,472 deaths. In all, Florida has had 1,984,425 total cases of coronavirus, with 1,298,576 people who fortunately have recovered.

At least one could argue that PGA players are not participating in front of full stadiums. The Texas Rangers have already controversially announced that they plan to play in front of a capacity crowd of  40,300 at Globe Life Field against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 5 for their home opener in Major League Baseball.

Yet one needs to question how many positive tests would there have been if players were not playing in front of crowds at Sawgrass. As a result, the players added to the field due to the positive test results are Sebastian Cappelen of Denmark, D.J. Trahan of the United States and Kiradach Aphibarnrat of Thailand.
