According to Josh Elliott of Global News on Monday, the Professional Golfers’ Association of America has decided to move the 2022 PGA Championship away from the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. The reason for the move is because they want to disassociate themselves from American President Donald Trump, who has been generally silent since the controversial riot at the Capitol building in Washington last week.

The Trump National Golf Club, owned by Trump, previously hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in July of 2017. The tournament was won by South Korea’s Sung-hyun Park, who shot a four-round score of -11 and beat South Korean amateur Hye-Jin Choi by a stroke.

The golf club also hosted the wedding of Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump to American real estate developer Jared Kushner of Livingston, New Jersey in 2009. Ivanka Trump was the Director of the Office of Economic Initiatives and Entrepreneurship while her father was President of the United States. Kushner meanwhile, was the Director of the Office of American Innovation.

It is not known where the 2022 PGA Championship will be held. The 2021 PGA Championship will be at Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Other future sites are the Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York in 2023, the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky in 2024, and the Quail Hollow Golf Club in 2025. The 2020 PGA Championship was won by American Collin Morikawa.

This is not the first time that a golf tournament has moved away from a course owned by Donald Trump. In 2017, the World Golf Championship moved from Doral, Florida to Mexico. The tournament had previously been held in south Florida from 2011 to 2016. In 2012, Trump purchased the golf resort and renamed it Trump National Doral Miami.
