The New York Giants have signed running back Najee Harris of Martinez, California to a one-year contract worth $1.215 million on Friday. According to Adam Wells of Bleacher Report. Harris is signing for the National Football League minimum.
Even though Harris is not getting paid that much by the Giants, he is not expected to be defined as an immediate backup running back with the Giants either. In fact, there are rumours that Harris will be a “significant contributor” to the Giants in 2026 according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
Harris is joining his third National Football League franchise. He played four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2021 to 2024, and one season with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025.
In 2025 with the Chargers, Harris had 15 rushes for 61 rushing yards. He also added three catches for 25 receiving yards. However, Harris’s season was cut short when he tore his Achilles tendon on September 21 in a 23-20 Chargers win over the Denver Broncos.
The one area of concern for Harris remains his overall consistency. In his final season in Pittsburgh in 2024, the Steelers fanbase were getting impatient with Harris’s overall play, and he was less productive statistically than backup running back Jaylen Warren of Clinton, North Carolina. Warren averaged 4.3 yards per rush, while Harris averaged four yards per rush. Warren was counted on more as a receiver. Warren had 38 catches for 310 receiving yards, and Harris had 36 catches for 283 receiving yards.
