Giants name Joe Schoen as their general manager

The New York Giants have hired Joe Schoen as their new general manager according to Michael David Smith of NBC Sports on Friday. The Giants were in need of a general manager after David Gettleman of Boston, Massachusetts announced his retirement at age 70 on January 11.
Schoen will not have to change states in his new position. Over the last five years, Schoen has been the assistant general manager of the Buffalo Bills.
Over the last 22 years, Schoen has been employed in the National Football League. He was initially a ticket office intern, assistant scout and then the southeast and southwest scout for the Carolina Panthers from 2000-2007. Schoen then joined the Miami Dolphins in 2008. From 2008-2016, he held numerous roles in Miami including national scout, and assistant director of college scouting.
While with the Dolphins, Schoen worked heavily with Bill Parcells, who ironically was the first Giants head coach in franchise history to win a Super Bowl. On January 25, 1987, the Giants defeated the Denver Broncos 39-20 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
The number one task for Schoen at the moment will be to hire a head coach. That is because the Giants fired Joe Judge from the position on January 11.
The second task for Schoen will be to try and find the right personnel to increase scoring for New York. In each of the last two seasons, the Giants have scored the second fewest points in the entire league. There have been positive signs from quarterback Daniel Jones and running back and Saquon Barkley, but have struggled with their consistency.
