The New Orleans Saints have signed kicker Daniel Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colorado to a new contract according to Josh Alper of NBC Sports. The length of the contract and financial terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed.
Carlson is joining his third National Football League franchise. He played two games with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 before being released by the Vikings in 2018. Carlson was then signed by the Oakland Raiders on October 24, 2018, and played the last eight seasons with the Raiders organization (two seasons with Oakland and six seasons in Las Vegas).
In 17 games in 2025, Carlson made 22 of 27 field goals and 21 of 22 converts. His longest field goal went for 60 yards. It was the longest field goal of Carlson’s National Football League career. It came with eight seconds left in a 14-12 Saints win over the Kansas City Chiefs on January 4.
Carlson’s most notable NFL season came in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders. He led the NFL with 40 made field goals. However, Carlson also led the NFL that season with 43 field goal attempts.
In Carlson’s NFL career, he has made 225 field goals in 258 attempts. He has also made 244 converts in 255 attempts.
Carlson has had a kicking advantage over the years compared to many other kickers because he plays for a football team in a domed stadium. That advantage will continue this season as Carlson is with the Saints. He should also be considered in fantasy football pools at the age of 31.
