CRONULLA SHARKS VS MANLY SEA EAGLES –Â THURSDAY APRIL 21, 7:50PM, SHARK PARK
The Sharks and Sea Eagles face off in what could be a thrilling start to round 7.
In recent times it’s Manly who have had the upper hand thanks to some Tom Trbojevic magic in 2021 and a couple of monster performances by Addin Fonua-Blake in 2019, although the Sharks prevailed in their only meeting in 2020.
The Sharks have earned far more plaudits in 2022 so far but are coming off a 34-18 loss to the benchmark Storm. The Sea Eagles have crafted a four-match winning streak with a minimum of fuss – including their last two games without marquee fullback Tom Trbojevic – after a slow start.
The Sharks lost few admirers on Saturday night in a high-quality clash. Nicho Hynes and Will Kennedy continue to shine in the spine, while Siosifa Talakai has been an absolute revelation at centre, scoring a try at AAMI Park and laying on both of winger Ronaldo Mulitalo’s.
Who’s In & Who’s Out
The Sharks have lost key forwards Dale Finucane (HIA) and Braden Hamlin-Uele (pec) to injury, with Cameron McInnes and Aiden Tolman set to start and Royce Hunt joining the bench. Sione Katoa and Briton Nikora return from a week off.
Morgan Harper returns for Manly from a COVID break, pushing Tolutau Koula to the reserves. Josh Aloiai and Sean Keppie have been ruled out, which sees Taniela Paseka promoted to start and Ethan Bullemor and Kurt De Luis join the bench.
Past Matchups
The Sea Eagles have won 18 of their last 21 against the Sharks, including a 40-22 late-season win in Brisbane in 2021 featuring a Tom Trbojevic hat-trick and a Jason Saab double. The clubs’ last six clashes averaged 54 points.
