FREE: Pinjarra Scarpside Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 13th April
April 12, 2022

No huge interest on the Scarpside tomorrow (despite it being one of my favourite tracks in WA) but there will huge intrigue from a WA racing fraternity perspective with a couple of high-profile debutants in Race 4.
Race 1 – 1:14PM HYGAIN MAIDEN (SCARPSIDE) (2200 METRES)
7. Special Image – 9. Mystical Babe – 6. Allegiance – 3. Frech
Race 2 – 1:49PM TABTOUCH- BETTER YOUR CLUB HANDICAP (SCARPSIDE) (1600 METRES)
3. Rolled Gold – 7. Wicked Fox – 6. Grace Du Roi – 2. Elite Fighter
Race 3 – 2:24 PM GWN 7 MAIDEN (SCARPSIDE) (1200 METRES)
4. Top Of The Pops – 14. Sesswa – 11. I Love Your Smile – 1. Demolish
This is a cracking race for the 2yos.
Have been really impressed by the Spirit Of Boom gelding Top Of The Pops at the trials in a couple of very soft hitouts, looks to me like there is something under the hood, gets the Blinkers on here having never worn them at the trials and a big run on debut wouldn’t surprise me.
Sesswa the stablemate has also trialled very nicely, while a lot will need to go right from barrier 15 but I Love Your Smile looked to be trucking up behind them under a full head of steam at the trials for LK Fernie, and you pay attention when his juveniles encounter early betting support, especially off such little exposure, he must have a high opinion.
Demolish going well, racing pattern hurts and drawn very awkwardly here, best of the raced brigade while Coatachino I thought was a sneaky good run on debut, wouldn’t surprise to see her run well here either.
Chances don’t end there.
Race 4 – 2:59PM GREAT NORTHERN SUPERCRISP MAIDEN (SCARPSIDE) (1200 METRES)
4. Colossal – 5. Western Knight – 7. Blue Skates – 6. Whata Carryon
This is one of the most intriguing midweek races you will see in WA.
The full brother to one of the most exciting horses we’ve seen in this state in the last 10 years, G1 Railway Stakes winner Western Empire, heads to the races for the first time in Western Knight. You don’t get much better breeding, and off the back of his 3 trials, you couldn’t deny he also looks to have his fair share of ability. For those that followed Western Empire’s early racing career, he took a little while to “put it all together” in working out what this racing caper is all about, as they say, and Western Knight to my eye also shares similar brotherly tendencies, he’s quite raw, a little green and might take a little while to furnish into the horse Jarrad Noske (and Bob) will hope he can be.
Enter the Grant Williams-trained Colossal, also on debut. A colt by Snitzel, out of a quality stakes winning (and multiple stakes placing) mare in Hallowell Belle, he is another who is impeccably bred. His 2 950m trials have been really strong, particularly his most recent. The way he savaged the line late and dove at the winner on the post signalled to me that he looks very smart. Given he’s shown an ability to be able to hold a position at the trials, while also drawing far more favourably than Western Knight in 4 (compared to barrier 9), I think from 2, maybe even 3 pairs closer in running he is going to get the run he needs to take this out on debut.
1.5 Units WIN
Race 5 – 3:35PM ELECTRICAL CONSULTANCY WA MAIDEN (SCARPSIDE) (1200 METRES)
9. Vitalize – 2. Superiorize – 6. Bondonna – 7. She’s Puzzling
Race 6 – 4:10PM JK WATTS MEMORIAL MAIDEN (SCARPSIDE) (1600 METRES)
6. Let Them All Talk – 1. Bentley Beau – 2. Steel’s The Deel – 7. Ataboy Charlie
Let Them All Talk
Keen to take on the 2 favoured runners in the market here who have had more than enough chances for me, at their prices they’re no value. The value for me here is Let Them All Talk from the in-form Ash Maley yard. We’ve only seen him at the races once but from what I can profile of him he already looks like he wants the mile, he’s a big striding, gangly type and I loved the way he hit the line on debut into 3rd at an unsuitable trip. Invaluable race experience under the belt, Chris Parnham takes the ride, if he’s within striking distance of Bentley Beau (main danger) on straightening, I think the big, long Scarpside straight will play into his hands in giving him enough real estate to run him down.
