FREE: Belmont Selections: Wednesday 31st August
August 31, 2022
7 races on today’s midweek Belmont card. Cutaway in the straight and back onto a Good track, perfect conditions.
Race 1 – 1:49PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK (1300 METRES)
2. Leniency – 3. Aiyza – 6. Fortune’s Luck – 5. Cherry’s A Star
Leniency
Leniency didn’t do a lot wrong on debut when grabbed in the shadows by Sisu Warrior. Punched the breeze with 59kgs on a Heavy 10, had nothing to take him into the race and those that sat on speed in this event aside from him effectively stopped. Drawn barrier 8/8 I think gives Troy Turner options, most likely of those being to roll forward in a race with a lack of early speed. Should only improve onto a drying track, think he’s a really nice horse and am going to butter up, just need a bit more meat on the bone to have a bet.

Race 2 – 2:24PM TABTOUCH-BETTER YOUR BET (1400 METRES)
13. Fly Away Home – 3. George Gently – 2. Mr Megsey – 7. Yakyak
Fly Away HomeÂ
Brings the best form into this all age maiden comfortably, having only 2 starts ago run within half a length of Saturday winner Rejuva King, Uncle Gerard, The Great Hoya and Mia Gusto. New season 3yos up against the older horses in this grade with the weight they get is always a popular formula for punters, and I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far from this horse in his career to date. Drawn barrier 2 for a plum run with a cutaway on offer if need be, ticks plenty of boxes to finally be breaking through. The price has evaporated since yesterday ($3.80-3.00), $3.30 my bet price and every chance this runner only gets shorter.

Race 6 – 4:45PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
8. Niigata – 1. Scorpion Stormz – 4. Green And Shady – 5. Johnny Angel
Niigata
This horse is still stuck in traffic from his last start effort. Went to the line under a stranglehold with absolutely no room to move from on straightening to the post. In saying that, was still only beaten 2L quite remarkably and looked to have a fair bit left to offer. O’Donnell maps well again from the draw and think with clear galloping room he can go very close, just needs some more luck than what he got last week.
1.5 Units WIN
Scorpion Stormz
Want to have something small on this Josh Krispyn galloper who is another that looks incredibly well placed back onto a dry track at the midweeks. If you pen the last start failure on a very Heavy track, the 2 starts prior he’s finished 2L adrift of No Apology and Westriver Miracle in a 72+, and the start before that 3.5L adrift of Flying Missile, Chili Is Hot, Blow Me Out and Blazing Away. That’s terrific form for a midweek CL3, he carries weight and maps a treat from the draw here for Rawiller. Does his best racing on top of the ground and think he’s over the odds at $9.00.
