FREE: Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 15th June

Soft 6 track at Belmont for our midweek with the rail out 15m, with the rail out that far and the wet weather that has been around it really will pay to take note of how the track is playing early in the day. Nice little midweek meeting to bet into however.

Race 1 – 12:04PM AMELIA PARK MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

5. Smokey Mountain – 4. Scenic Ruler – 1. El Patron – 6. Trigger Finger

Smokey Mountain

Have really liked both of this colt’s trial wins. First was last year and a really stylish piece of work before the most recent in May, led them up, was held together quite well and really fought back once challenged in the straight there by No Peer, looks a smart operator and trialled without the Blinkers there, getting them back on here for his debut assignment. Drawn Barrier 1, can either lead them up or should get a lovely suck run on the back of the speed if they get really taken on by something, think he’s a nice horse for Vern Brockman and a nice price on offer at around that $6.00 mark.

1.5 Units WIN

Scenic Ruler

Really small spec here Scenic Ruler on debut for Ted Martinovich. Saw something in his trials that suggests he could have a motor there and something to offer, being by Universal Ruler you’d think getting through the ground will be of no issue, drawn well, worth a small spec as he is a fair whack over my price.

Race 2 – 12:39PM CROWN PERTH MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

4. Universal Playboy – 5. Weaponize – 12. Jeanella – 11. Bisector

Universal Playboy

Really speedy type on debut for the Michael Lane yard who has drawn the inside peg to showcase that early dash he has shown at the trials. Thought he was held together quite well and really liked the way he responded and kicked away when challenged in the straight in what was slick time for the day. Chris Parnham sticks, can find the front, out of a real wet-track sire and think there will be some money around for a few other runners here, potentially see a better price too.

1.5 Units WIN

Weaponize

Admittedly, I don’t think settling back in the field on debut over the 1000m on a wet track at Belmont is a terrific set-up for a debut run, but I’ve absolutely loved what I’ve seen from this bloke at his 2 trial hit-outs to date and think there is a real engine under the hood, if Brad Parnham chose to shake him up in his most recent I think he would have gone straight past them in the straight. As touched on, 1000m may be short for a get back type, but if he can find some cover and not spot them too much of a head start on straightening, wouldn’t surprise me to see him blouse them.

0.5 Units WIN

Race 3 – 1:14PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

2. Ponyo – 3. Dance Session – 1. Astrape – 7. Extra Secret

Race 4 – 1:49PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

1. Prince Of Guelph – 4. Frigid – 7. Oh Sophia – 5. O’Lara’s Prince

Prince Of Guelph

Has always shown some ability this galloper, and you’d think joining the stable of Grant Williams there is the potential that he could unlock any extra potential he may have previously left in the tank. Although the recent trial says 7 of 7, I thought it was a really nice piece of work and not asked for any effort at any stage, really coasted to the line. Draws well, Taj with the claim brings him down to the 57kgs, although this may be short of his peak trip, I think he’s got some real ability and is over the odds at close to double figures.

1 Unit WIN

Frigid is a Bob Peters galloper now involved in his hot combo with Michael Grantham. Most recent trial win was good, the time was slow but was given very soft time of it. Very lightly raced and plenty of upside, this is a very nice kick-off point for her and can take up a terrific spot in running from the gate. Huge respect and a deserving favourite, I think they look a very nice quinella for those who enjoy an exotic.

Race 5 – 2:24PM QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

2. Awesome Rival – 7. Kentucky Blue – 1. Bent Leg Boris – 8. Lady Of Babylon

Awesome Rival

Really high rating maiden victor finally breaking the duck last start and think he can go on with it now. Last start was run 4.5L faster than maiden average, hit the line better than anything there and the 2nd horse has come out and bolted in since. Chris can roll forward from 8 and it wouldn’t be impossible to see him land 1-1 here with a real lack of speed engaged. Think he can progress through CL1 grade here but would love $3.00+ to be getting involved.

2 Units WIN @$3.00+ BSP

Race 6 – 3:00PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

4. Flower In The Wind – 1. Red Dwarf – 10. Dash Of Brandy – 6. Tizzle Top

Flower In The Wind

Actually had something at a big price fresh off the back of what I thought was a superb trial. She just got too far out of her ground in a strong 3yo handicap and her last 100m she absolutely monstered the line. This is nowhere near as deep, run under the belt and out to a more suitable trip, Seduce Me has since come from that race and franked the form by winning last Saturday, I just really want them to be able to make ground down the middle of the track before launching in. Will update this post accordingly but for those that haven’t the time, this is a good bet if they can run on in the conditions tomorrow.

Units TBA

Race 7 – 3:35PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

8. Jay Dee – 3. Dazzling Dane – 5. Miss Field – 2. Oceanzara

Race 8 – 4:15PM MRS MAC’S HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

4. Mahaleo – 8. Zoudini – 3. Born To Talk – 9. Long Weekend

Race 9 – 4:45PM RELIABLE ASSET MAINTENANCE HANDICAP (1650 METRES)

2. Outspoken Lad – 1. Juicing Carrots – 9. Pambella – 4. Cable Guy

Outspoken Lad

The $5.50 that went up with some corps a little earlier today is now gone (ludicrous), but I’m still keen to follow Taj in on Outspoken Lad in the last tomorrow. Went 1st up into the Raconteur, a form reference that is miles better than any of these, and I thought ran very well. Is a winner at the distance, a winner on a soft 7, has the run under the belt and although Taj may have a bit of traffic to navigate in what is a big field to finish proceedings, I’m going to back him in to get him into clear air when needed and to get the job done. Drops back into a 60+ with just the 56.5kgs and looks so well placed.
